Adult Recreational Classes

San Jose Taiko's Adult Recreational Class (ARC) is open to adults of all ages and skill levels. ARC is an 8-week beginning-level class designed to give people the chance to play taiko on a casual basis and covers basic playing techniques, taiko history and etiquette, and San Jose Taiko's philosophy. Three sessions are offered each year: Winter, Spring, and Fall. Although no experience is necessary, participants must be at least 15 years old and capable of fairly rigorous physical activity.


DAY/TIME: Sundays, 1:00-3:00pm

NEW LOCATION: San Jose Taiko studio, 730 The Alameda, San Jose

FEE: $300 + online processing fee

CANCELLATION POLICY: ***FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.*** Fee can be transferred to another ARC session ONLY if the rescheduling request is sent more than 2 weeks prior to the first class of your 8-week session AND there is space available in a future ARC session. There are NO REFUNDS, MAKE-UP classes, or FUTURE CREDITS to any other San Jose Taiko program/activity if you do not attend the class.

Q: Do I need previous taiko experience?

A: No. The Adult Recreational Class (ARC) is for beginning- and intermediate-level players who want to focus on the basics of learning San Jose Taiko’s playing style.

Q: I have previous taiko experience. Can I take this class?

A: Yes. Anyone with a beginner’s mind is welcome to take this class.

Q: What is the structure of the class?

A: Each session lasts 8 weeks and ends with an informal recital during the last class. Instructors are current SJT Performing Members and/or Staff.

Q: What equipment do I need?

A: None. Everything will be provided.

Q: How physically fit do I have to be to take this class?

A: You should be able to engage in somewhat rigorous physical activity for the duration of a two-hour class.

Q: Do you offer more advanced classes?
