San Jose Taiko Code of Conduct

San Jose Taiko (SJT) lives our values of equity, belonging, empowerment, community-building, accessibility, respect, gratitude, and joy. Our performance and education programs are committed to creating inclusive spaces for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, mental/physical ability, physical appearance, religion (including religious dress and grooming), or nationality. We do not tolerate harassment in any form, and we expect all participants in our programs to actively create an open and safe environment. This Code of Conduct shares our community expectations and applies to ALL present, whether instructor, performer, student, audience, or observer. 

The Code

  • Start with kindness and compassion: respect the perspectives, abilities, and experiences of other participants.

  • Respect personal space and common courtesy rules for personal interaction.

  • Be aware of your surroundings and mindful of others around you to do your part to ensure a great experience for all.

  • No harassment: Refrain from using, engaging in, and/or displaying demeaning, harassing, aggressive, or intimidating language, materials, clothing, or behavior, whether it be physical, sexual, visual, or verbal in nature.

  • Participate with an open mind and open heart without any expectations or pre-judgement of yourself or others.

  • Be mindful of the impact of your words and actions, rather than your intentions.

  • Respect property: Do not damage or steal private or communal property.

  • Report inappropriate behavior: Promptly report any behavior that violates these expectations by any of the following means
